Ryanair ups hand luggage size to sharpen budget edge

Ryanair is increasing its free personal cabin bag allowance by 20%, aligning with new EU standards to standardise airline policies and reduce passenger confusion. Travellers can now bring a bag up to 40cm x 30cm x 20cm on board at no extra cost, boosting convenience and cutting down on baggage fees. 

While the change offers more flexibility, overpacking remains risky due to strict enforcement and varying aircraft layouts. This strategic shift not only enhances customer experience but also strengthens Ryanair’s competitive position in the budget aviation market, potentially pressuring rivals to follow suit.
