Mount Charles Group invests in Belfast airport food and beverage revamp

Mount Charles Group has committed £1 million (€1.18 million) to overhaul Belfast International Airport’s Northern Quarter food court, creating 40 new positions, according to a Belfast Telegraph report.

The upgrade will transform the space into “a single high-end restaurant and bar,” seating 180 guests, and will feature a new Bewley’s coffee dock.

The investment coincides with the airport’s extensive £100 million (€118 million) transformation programme, with employment at the Northern Quarter set to double to 80 when the new restaurant and bar launches in spring.

Gavin Annon, Mount Charles chief strategy officer, highlighted the partnership’s longevity: “This £1m investment is a tangible commitment to Belfast International Airport and to the people who deliver the Northern Quarter experience every day. We’re investing in the physical environment – the fit-out and re-design – and in the labour and training required to deliver a premium, hospitality-led offer. We’re proud to be creating new, local employment opportunities in the Northern Quarter while supporting local contractors and suppliers who are helping to deliver this transformative upgrade for passengers.”

Kate Sherry, the airport’s chief commercial officer, added: “Mount Charles has been a trusted partner for two decades and this investment in the Northern Quarter forms an integral part of our £100m airport transformation programme. The new offering will deliver an enhanced, higher-quality food and beverage experience for travellers, while creating valuable local employment.”

The redevelopment reflects growing demand for premium passenger experiences within aviation hubs and demonstrates a clear alignment between private sector investment and airport expansion goals.

The upgrade is scheduled to launch in spring 2026 and will integrate with the airport’s ongoing infrastructure and service improvements.
