Lightweight leap for Irish aerospace

Irish SMEs ÉireComposites and PlasmaBound, alongside TU Dublin, have secured €2.5m in Government funding to fast-track lightweight composite tech for aviation. Their breakthrough focuses on PlasmaBound’s patented Controlled Polymer Ablation process, which prepares composite surfaces for bonding without damaging their structure. This innovation could unlock widespread use of lightweight materials in aircraft manufacturing, driving fuel efficiency, sustainability, and operational savings. This shows a shift towards scalable, cost-effective lightweight solutions poised to reshape aerospace manufacturing and supply chain strategy.
