Indonesian MRO provider Garuda Maintenance Facility Aero Asia has completed a Boeing 737-800 main landing gear overhaul for Thai-registered express cargo carrier K-Mile Air, delivering the project within the agreed turnaround time despite technical challenges encountered during the work.

According to Aviation Business News, the overhaul supported the aircraft through its third overhaul cycle and involved the management of several major findings, including corrosion on certain components. The issues required additional repair actions and technical coordination with Boeing to ensure safety and compliance standards were maintained throughout.

GMF AeroAsia said the project was completed on schedule thanks to responsive communication, skilled manpower and strong team coordination. "Despite operational challenges, the project was completed on schedule thanks to responsive communication, skilled manpower, and strong support from the team," the company said.

GMF AeroAsia is Indonesia's largest MRO service provider, based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and tracing its origins to the Garuda Indonesia Technical Division. The company serves customers from more than 70 countries and holds civil aviation authority certifications from more than 20 regulatory bodies, including the FAA, EASA, Australia's CASA and Indonesia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

Landing gear overhaul is among the most technically demanding components of heavy maintenance, requiring precise disassembly, inspection, repair and reassembly of complex structural systems subject to extreme cyclic loading during normal flight operations. Corrosion management in particular represents a significant challenge on older airframes operating in high-humidity environments, as is common across Southeast Asia.

K-Mile Air operates Boeing 737 freighter aircraft on express cargo services across Thailand and the wider Southeast Asian region, serving e-commerce and time-sensitive freight markets where aircraft availability and turnaround reliability are critical operational priorities.
