Passenger growth in Ireland’s aviation sector continued to rise in February, with Dublin Airport reporting its busiest February on record, according to airport operator DAA.

The performance matters for aviation operators as it reflects sustained demand and network activity across a key European hub.

The airport handled more than 2.3 million passengers during the month, representing a 9.7% increase year on year. This marks the highest February total since the airport opened in 1940, reinforcing its position within European air transport flows.

The strong result follows growth in January, which rose by 13.8% compared with the previous year. Together, the figures indicate continued momentum in early 2026 across both inbound and outbound traffic.

DAA noted that demand was supported by a combination of seasonal and event-driven factors. Public holidays, school breaks, and international fixtures contributed to higher passenger volumes throughout the month.

Travel associated with the Six Nations Championship also increased traffic, with visiting supporters arriving for matches in Dublin. These movements added to short-stay and weekend travel patterns.

The airport continues to serve as Ireland’s primary aviation gateway, linking the country to Europe, North America, and other global markets. For airlines, the growth supports route development and frequency planning.

The airport operator also highlighted ongoing discussions around the current annual passenger cap of 32 million travellers. The limit remains a factor in capacity planning as demand continues to rise.

Infrastructure development and operational improvements remain part of the airport’s response to increased traffic. These measures aim to support efficient passenger processing and maintain connectivity standards.

For the wider aviation sector, the February figures reinforce Dublin Airport’s role as a growing hub within Europe’s mid-tier airport segment. The trend supports continued airline investment and network expansion strategies.
