Aviation sustainability efforts have gained traction with a new agreement between Germany-based logistics company DHL Express and Malaysia Aviation Group, according to a company statement.

The partnership enables the use of sustainable aviation fuel within logistics operations, supporting emissions reduction across international air transport, a key concern for the aviation industry.

Under the agreement, Malaysia Aviation Group will adopt DHL’s GoGreen Plus service to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with its time-definite shipments. The initiative is expected to cut approximately 300 tonnes of lifecycle carbon dioxide equivalent emissions in 2026 compared to the previous baseline.

The service relies on sustainable aviation fuel, which is produced from renewable feedstocks such as used cooking oil and waste residues. Industry estimates suggest SAF can reduce lifecycle emissions by around 80% compared with conventional jet fuel, supporting broader decarbonisation goals in aviation.

Julian Neo, Managing Director of DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei, said SAF is among the most developed solutions for reducing emissions in long-haul air transport. He added that participation from a national carrier contributes to wider adoption across the sector.

DHL’s GoGreen Plus service operates through a book-and-claim model, allowing customers to benefit from SAF use within the network even if their shipments do not physically fly on the same aircraft using the fuel. The approach supports scalability of SAF deployment across global logistics operations.

Malaysia Aviation Group applies the service across inbound and outbound shipments on trade lanes spanning the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific. This forms part of its broader sustainability strategy across both passenger and cargo operations.

Philip See, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, said SAF remains a key lever in aviation’s path toward net-zero emissions by 2050. He noted that coordinated efforts across policy, production, and infrastructure are required to scale adoption across the sector.
