ALTEA supports Ireland's acquisition of military Falcon 6X strategic aircraft

ALTEA, a European aviation consultancy, has supported the Government of Ireland in procuring a factory-new Dassault Falcon 6X strategic reach aircraft, delivered in December 2025, according to Asia Pacific Defence Reporter.

The aircraft, the first military-registered Falcon 6X globally and the second delivered by Dassault to a European state, replaces a Learjet 45 operational for more than two decades.

Lieutenant General Rossa Mulcahy, Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, stated the aircraft represents a significant milestone for the Irish Air Corps. The Falcon 6X delivers enhanced capability in airlift, medical evacuation, and government transport, with its range, performance, and advanced systems enabling support for Irish citizens and Defence Forces personnel globally.

The acquisition followed a tender competition under the negotiated procedure set out in the Defence and Security Directive 81/2009/EC. ALTEA defined and formalised requirements, specifications, award criteria, and scoring for the tender, whilst providing advice on procurement contract terms.

Jean Sémiramoth, ALTEA Partner, noted the firm provided an experienced team to manage the project. The consultancy collaborated with the Irish Air Corps and Department of Defence over nine months to strengthen the State's transport capability with an aircraft suited for airlift and medical evacuation operations.

Manufactured by Dassault Aviation and configured for up to 14 passengers, the new-generation jet features advanced fuel efficiency with a maximum range exceeding 5,500 nautical miles and maximum operating speed of 690 miles per hour. The aircraft can reach the Western Coast of the United States from Baldonnel, Ireland.

The Falcon 6X features modern avionics, secure communications, and the latest operational and safety equipment, with a flexible, hard-wearing interior designed for multiple operational requirements.
