Aviation Company of the Year
Aviation Company of the Year

Emirates

Emirates - Aviation Company of the Year 2014

Judges Said

The airline was only set up in 1985, and then it had just two aircraft. But its total focus on quality has enabled it to grow really dramatically; so that it now it has 215 aircraft in operation and another 370 on order. Last year it was voted the World’s Best Airline…our judges agreed – it really is a very class act.

Emirates

Emirates - Aircraft Operator Award 2014

Judges Said

Emirates has won quite a few international awards in the past…now it’s won Ireland’s premier Operators award too! Revenues of nearly twenty billion dollars, almost 40m passengers last year, and now nearly 50,000 staff worldwide. The Irish operation has also been a great success story too, with a big increase in passenger numbers, and cargo tonnage.

Aviation Leasing Achievement Award
Aviation Leasing Achievement Award

Avolon

Avolon - Aviation Leasing Achievement Award

Judges Said

It’s only been in business for four years, but it has a fleet of nearly 200 aircraft, and a team of more than 50 people, working in six offices worldwide. In the last year or so it’s raised more than two billion dollars to fund the expansion of its fleet – adding another 30 aircraft and 14 new airline clients.

Installation and Use of Stop Bars and Stop Bar Violation Monitoring - Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport - Safety Award - Aviation Awards 2014

Judges Said

The DAA’s installation of Stop Bars at entry points to runway 16/34, and the development of a new stop bar violation monitoring system, has had a big impact – significantly reducing the risk of runway incursions in the future. Dublin is the only airport in Europe that employs such a system…so yet another example of us leading the way in international airport safety.

Aviation Innovation Award

Eirtech Aviation

Eirtech Aviation - Aviation Innovation Award 2014

Judges Said

Eirtech’s solution for fitting a cabin pressurisation or altitude warning system for the Boeing 737 fleet was nothing short of exemplary. It’s simple, it’s quick to install and it’s very cost effective – typically saving about €10,000 per plane. It’s also turned into a huge commercial success, with orders already secured for the new system on more than 400 aircraft.

Military Achievement Award - Aviation Industry Awards

Military Achievement Award

Brigadier-General J.B.Connor

Brigadier-General J.B.Connor - Military Achievement Award

Judges Said

The recipient of this award was the first Air Corps officer to attain the rank of General, and he is recognised for his outstanding contribution to aviation through excellent flying skills, leadership and the development of military aviation in Ireland. Well done to General O’Connor.

Airport Achievement Award

Airport Achievement Award

Shannon Airport Authority

Shannon Airport Authority - Airport Achievement Award

Judges Said

There’s been a huge transformation taking place at Shannon, following the Government’s decision in 20-12 to separate the airport from the Dublin Airport Authority. But the results are already evident….passenger numbers are now increasing, 17 new routes have been launched, and many existing services have been expanded.

Aviation Export Award - Aviation Awards Ireland

Aviation Export Award

Botany Weaving

Botany Weaving - Aviation Export Award 2014

Judges Said

Botany is one of those amazing Irish aviation success stories. Last year it manufactured 1.3 million meters of specialist fabrics, and its turnover soared to €25m. It currently exports to 40 countries – and among its recent overseas orders have been contracts for Etihad, Air Asia, Gulf Air, SAS, Air France, American Airlines and Quantas.

  .............................................................
MRO of the Year Award - Aviation Awards Ireland

MRO of the Year Award

Dublin Aerospace Limited

Dublin Aerospace Limited - MRO of the Year Award

Judges Said

It’s only been in business since 2009, but Dublin Aerospace is now one of the best known MROs around. Some significant factors in its success include its very ‘lean’ structure, its well trained and highly motivated staff, and its investment in all the latest tooling and equipment. No wonder it’s got a client list that reads like the Who’s Who of the aviation sector.

  .............................................................
Aviation Academic Education Award - AIA 2014

Aviation Academic Education Award

B.Sc in Aviation Management (with Pilot Studies) - Dublin City University

B.Sc in Aviation Management (with Pilot Studies), DCU

Judges Said

DCU set up Ireland’s first Aviation Management degree course, and since its launch in 2009 it has quickly gained a terrific reputation …both here and internationally. Much of its success has been down to the fact that the course was “created with the industry – for the industry”…so there’s been huge input from all the main Irish operators.

Aviation Training Award - Aviation Industry Awards

Aviation Training Award

Shannon Aerospace

Shannon Aerospace - Aviation Training Award

Judges Said

More than two thousand students have been through this training centre over the last 25 years – and many of them now occupy very senior positions within the industry. And it’s still leading the pack – with a new Bachelor of Technology in Aircraft Maintenance and Operations degree, recently launched in collaboration with the University of Limerick.

Aviation R&D Award - Aviation Industry Awards Ireland

Aviation R&D Award

The Department of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Biomedical Engineering, University of Limerick

Department of Mechanical, Aeronautical and Biomedical Engineering, University of Limerick

Judges Said

The students at Limerick University have been undertaking state of the art aeronautical research for more than 20 years, and they have ten major research programmes currently underway: e.g. work looking into the latest composite moulding technologies, the potential use of graphene, and the development of super slippery coatings to make aircraft more fuel efficient. There’s also a major programme underway that aims to deliver more affordable aircraft in the future.

Part M Aviation

Part M Aviation - Aviation Support Services Award 2014

Judges Said

These guys have only been in business for four years, but they’ve already made a huge mark on the aviation industry. Turnover is now heading for €2m a year, and they’ve trebled their customer base in the last couple of years. We were particularly impressed by the glowing feedback from their customers.

Bray Air Spectacular - Simtech Aviation

Bray Air Spectacular, Simtech Aviation - General and Sport Aviation Award

Judges Said

Entered by Simtech Aviation, the air spectacular at Bray is a huge event, attracting crowds of 100,000 or more. And much of its success is down to the 100 or so volunteers that help stage it. So the trophy tonight isn’t really for any one person – it’s to celebrate and reward the whole team that runs the event.

Aviation Sustainability & Environment Award
Aviation Sustainability & Environment Award

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways - Aviation Sustainability & Environment Award

Judges Said

Etihad has really invested to make its fleet and its operations as efficient as possible. So new planes, clever routing technologies, lighter cargo containers and a big Biofuels research programme have all made a valuable contribution – and between them they have already reduced the airline’s emissions by nearly a quarter.

They take training and staff development incredibly seriously at GE Capital Aviation Services. They had a brilliant overall strategy. It supported and encouraged staff who take university courses, it has a great leadership development programme, and it established the Women’s Network Ireland to help coach and mentor more professional women…the list of their training initiatives goes on and on.

Cork Airport - Customer Service Award

Judges Said

Cork has made huge strides forward on the customer service front – from setting up better information systems and launching a new phone App, to providing improved parking facilities and undertaking a lot of staff training. And the results are impressive – in a recent global passenger survey across 61 regional airports, it came top of the class.
